February 2021 Book Club Roundup

The start of a new month means a fresh collection of titles from book club curators. February 2021 brings two selections from both Read with Jenna and Belletrist, though Oprah still hasn’t announced a new title since Caste last August. I’ve read and reviewed both of Jenna’s picks already here and here, and I’m particularly intrigued by the Target Club Pick.

So without further ado, here’s the roundup of what the celebs have picked for you!

REESE’S BOOK CLUB

What Reese said:

“Picture this: Our digs - A 5-star resort in the Swiss Alps. The reason for visiting - to celebrate a sibling’s engagement. So far, this sounds like something you wouldn’t want to leave… until you can’t.

When a blistering snow storm cuts off access to the hotel and a person turns up missing, you’ll follow a police detective as she uncovers the hotel’s eerie past to find out whodunit. Careful, this could get icy.”

READ WITH JENNA -

HER PICK

What Jenna said:

"In searching for a book that was beautifully written and captured the times, a New York Times book editor recommended that I read 'Send For Me' by Lauren Fox," said Jenna. "I think I read it in two days."

READ WITH JENNA - MEMBER PICK

What Jenna said:

“For the first time in our book club’s history, I also asked a group of club members to help pick a book.

They picked The Four Winds by Kristin Hannah. Hannah is a beautiful writer. I loved her 2015 book, The Nightingale.”

Cherie Jones.jpg

GMA BOOK CLUB

What they said:

“An intimate and visceral portrayal of interconnected lives, across race and class, in a rapidly changing resort town.”

Milk Blood Heat.jpg

Belletrist / Emma Roberts + Kara Preiss - Pick #1

What they said:

“A livewire debut from Dantiel W. Moniz, one of the most exciting discoveries in today's literary landscape, Milk Blood Heat depicts the sultry lives of Floridians in intergenerational tales that contemplate human connection, race, womanhood, inheritance, and the elemental darkness in us all.”

Milk Fed.jpg

Belletrist / Emma Roberts + Kara Preiss - Pick #2

What they said:

“A tender and riotously funny meditation on love, certitude, and the question of what we are all being fed, from one of our major writers on the psyche—both sacred and profane.”

Good Neighbors.jpg

Barnes & Noble Book Club

What they said:

“Beneath the veneer of a happy suburban community often lies ugly secrets and even uglier personalities — author Sarah Langan explores all sides of that dangerous combination with a wonderfully deft hand in the memorable Good Neighbors. A stinging satire chock full of complex characters, simmering dread and vicious retributions; prepare to be shocked.”

When the Apricots Bloom Target Club Pick.png

Target Club Pick

What they said:

“Inspired by her own experiences stationed in Baghdad during Saddam Hussein's rule, former foreign correspondent Gina Wilkinson's evocative, suspenseful debut is told through the eyes of three very different women in Iraq at the turn of the millennium. A secretary, an artist and a diplomat's wife, each must confront the complexities of trust, friendship, and motherhood under the rule of a dictator and his ruthless secret police...”

Interior Chinatown Now Read This PBS .jpg

PBS NewsHour’s Now Read This

What they said:

“This satirical novel centers around Willis Wu, an Asian actor who is typecast to fill Hollywood stereotypes in television such as ‘Generic Asian Man’ or ‘Background Oriental Making a Weird Face.’ He has a small part on a cop show called ‘Black and White,’ but dreams of one day playing ‘Kung Fu Guy,’ which he sees as the ‘pinnacle’ role he could be offered.”

And there you have it!

What do you think of their selections? Have you read any of these novels yet? Which would you recommend to friends or for your own book club? Drop me a line and let me know if I’ve missed any clubs you’d like me to include in the roundup for March!
